Thousands rally in Bangladesh capital as major political party demands quick reforms and an election

Tens of thousands of Bangladesh Nationalist Party activists rallied in Dhaka, calling for a new election and reforms under an interim government led by Muhammad Yunus after former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s fall. BNP leader Khaleda Zia’s son, Tarique Rahman, urged the government not to fail and meet public expectations, warning of street protests if a roadmap for the next election isn’t provided. Hasina faces charges of crimes against humanity, and the government plans to seek her repatriation from India pending a court decision.
