Australia offers troops more cash bonuses to address defence shortfall

Australia’s centre-left Albanese government plans to invest A$600 million in defence reserve recruitment and extend cash bonuses to retain troops to address workforce shortages. The Defence Department aims to achieve a permanent workforce of 69,000 by the early 2030s and overall combined defence and civilian workforce of around 100,000 by 2040. The government is also allocating significant funds for acquiring nuclear submarines and missile systems in response to increasing tensions in the Indo Pacific region.
