Former Bolivian President Evo Morales has vowed to continue his hunger strike until his political rival, President Luis Arce, accepts dialogue without conditions. Morales, who began his hunger strike in the rural coca-growing region of Chapare, is seeking talks on both economic and political issues. Tensions have escalated as pro-Morales supporters have set up roadblocks in protest against Arce, with whom Morales is competing to lead Bolivia’s governing socialist party in the upcoming elections.
