An unidentified naval commando force abducted a trainee mariner in Batroun, Lebanon, in an operation believed to be carried out by Israel, based on a statement by a Lebanese military source and a judicial official. The incident, the first of its kind since the Israel-Hezbollah war began in September, involved the kidnapping of a Lebanese man from his student housing near the Maritime Sciences and Technology Institute in Batroun. The abductee, a resident of Qmatiyeh, was in his 30s and was completing courses to become a sea captain, according to an acquaintance.
