Amid a slump in the diamond industry, tens of thousands of migrant workers in Surat are returning to their native towns within and outside Gujarat during the festive season. The GSRTC has facilitated around 55,000 passengers to 11 destinations in Gujarat, while private luxury buses have been transporting 30,000 to 35,000 passengers daily since October 26. This movement is driven by extended Diwali vacations in diamond factories and the economic impact of the industry’s recession, prompting a significant exodus from Surat.
