Hezbollah has chosen Naim Qassem as its new leader, succeeding Hassan Nasrallah. Qassem, a founding member of Hezbollah in 1982, was elected by the five-member Shura Council and has been the party’s deputy secretary general since 1991. Following Nasrallah’s assassination, Qassem has been leading the group and advocating for a ceasefire in the Israel-Hezbollah war.
