Dastangoi performance by Mahmood Farooqui at IIT-B cancelled

Mahmood Farooqui, a Dastangoi specialist, was scheduled to perform “Dastan-e-Karn — AZ Mahabharat” at IIT-Bombay as part of the Izhar 2024 event organised by Vaani. However, the performance was cancelled after a group of students opposed it due to Farooqui’s past rape conviction and subsequent acquittal by the Delhi High Court and Supreme Court. The group ‘IIT B for Bharat’ raised concerns about the institute’s association with Farooqui, leading to the cancellation of the event.
