Quebec Treasury Board President Sonia LeBel announced a freeze on public service recruitment starting Nov. 1, with vacant positions being filled by existing Quebec public service employees. This measure aims to slow down growth in the number of employees and respect budget allocations for the current year. The freeze excludes health, education, and higher education networks, as well as interns, students, and seasonal workers with recall rights, as part of the Quebec government’s overall spending tightening due to a projected deficit of $11 billion in 2024-25.
