Iino Kaiun orders Japan’s first methanol dual-fuel VLCC

Japanese shipping line Iino Kaiun Kaisha (Iino Lines) has ordered Japan’s first methanol dual-fuel supertanker from Nihon Shipyard, collaborating with Idemitsu Tanker, Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK), and NSY for the design. The 339.5m VLCC will use methanol and conventional fuel, reducing emissions significantly, and is scheduled for delivery in 2027 under a charter with Idemitsu Tanker. China Merchants Energy Shipping (CMES) has also ordered a methanol dual-fuel VLCC, expected for delivery by April 2026 at a discounted price of $107.5m.
