Hedge fire cuts power to dozens in Canterbury

A hedge fire near Rangiora caused a power outage for over 100 homes in North Canterbury, with Mainpower reporting the unplanned outage affecting customers in several roads. Firefighters responded to the blaze in a hedge and hay shed, with structures at risk and one property evacuated. About 50 firefighters and two helicopters worked on containing the fire, which was reported as contained by 5pm.
