The IESO predicts a 75% increase in electricity demand by 2050, driven by factors like EV production and data centers. With at least 16 new data centers expected by 2035, meeting this demand will require low- or zero-GHG emitting forms of generation due to Trudeau government’s regulations phasing out fossil fuels by 2050. Wind power, solar power, hydro power, nuclear power, and biomass power generation will likely be key in meeting Ontario’s future electricity needs.
