Saudi broadcaster MBC under fire over ‘terrorist’ label for slain Hamas chief

Saudi Arabia’s media regulator has launched an investigation into MBC, the region’s largest media group, after it aired a report describing the slain Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar as a “new face of terrorism.” The report sparked backlash on social media and led to protests in Iraq, resulting in the suspension of MBC’s license. Saudi Arabia, torn between historical foes and regional sensitivities, has condemned Israel’s actions in Gaza while also considering Iran and its backed groups as malign forces in the region.
