Challenge launched for innovators to cut emissions at African airports

A challenge has been launched by SITA and Innovate UK for global innovators to develop solutions reducing carbon emissions at African regional airports, aiming for a 20% reduction by optimizing aircraft turnaround times. Successful applicants could win funding and collaborate with SITA on trial projects to address the unique needs of smaller airports, ultimately leading to cost savings and reduced CO2 emissions in the air industry. Selim Bouri, SITA President for the Middle East and Africa, highlighted the importance of optimizing turnaround times to increase profitability and efficiency in the aviation sector, especially in Africa where demand for air transport is expected to double in the next 15 years.
