Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi appointed Maj. Gen. Hassan Mahmoud Rashad as the new director of the General Intelligence Service, replacing longtime chief Maj. Gen. Abbas Kamel. Kamel, now an advisor to Sisi, had delegated tasks due to health issues. Rashad, a GIS insider, will likely lead Egypt in Gaza cease-fire talks and negotiations.
