Same-sex flamingo couple hatches egg, cares for chick at California zoo

At the San Diego Zoo Safari Park, a pair of male lesser flamingos in their 40s have become first-time parents after hatching an egg together, raising one of six chicks born this year at the park. Wildlife care staffers noticed the two males exhibiting strong nesting behaviors, leading them to give the pair a fake egg to see how they would do as foster parents. The chick hatched three weeks later, with the foster dads taking turns caring for it, demonstrating their success as potential bonded foster parents for future chicks at the park.
