A rare, bright comet named Tsuchinshan-Atlas is approaching Earth from the outer solar system and will be closest on Saturday, visible through October with clear skies. It should be visible to the naked eye, but binoculars or telescopes will provide a better view. Comets are frozen remnants from the solar system’s formation that heat up and release tails as they approach the sun; Tsuchinshan-Atlas, also known as C/2023 A3, originated from the Oort Cloud and won’t return for another 80,000 years if it survives.
