Eight countries criticize Israel for rejecting Gaza war peace roadmap

Turkiye, along with seven other countries, has condemned Israel’s rejection of a proposed roadmap aimed at implementing US President Donald Trump’s plan to resolve the Gaza conflict. In a joint statement, the foreign ministers of Turkiye, Egypt, Indonesia, Jordan, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates criticized Israel’s stance as it undermines efforts for lasting peace and constitutes a repudiation of Trump’s Comprehensive Plan endorsed by UN Security Council Resolution 2803. They emphasized that Israel’s refusal obstructs peace negotiations and holds it responsible for any negative consequences related to the ongoing conflict. The roadmap, which has received support from Palestinian factions, is viewed as vital for decommissioning weapons, Israeli troop withdrawal, and the reconstruction of Gaza. The ministers also called for active US engagement to ensure compliance with the commitments outlined in the plan.

Why It Matters

This situation highlights the ongoing tensions in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, where diplomatic efforts for peace have historically faced significant challenges. The rejection of the roadmap by Israel not only complicates the implementation of Trump’s plan but also raises concerns about the humanitarian situation in Gaza, which remains dire due to ongoing violence and blockades. The call for Palestinian statehood and self-determination reflects a longstanding international position, with the two-state solution being central to many diplomatic efforts aimed at resolving the conflict. The involvement of multiple nations underscores the complexity of the situation and the necessity for a coordinated international response to achieve lasting peace.
