Ivory Coast’s talking drum returns to village after 110 years

A sacred talking drum, known as the Djidji Ayokwe, has been returned to its home village in Ivory Coast after being looted by French troops in 1916. This drum, used by the Ebrie community for communication and warnings, was officially handed back by France in February 2026, marking the end of over a century of absence.
