Large number of Iranians support Netanyahu and US-Israeli strikes on regime

Around 40% of Iranians view U.S. and Israeli military actions against the Islamic Republic as a “humanitarian intervention,” according to a survey conducted by the Netherlands-based GAMAAN involving 31,450 respondents. The survey, which took place from June 20 to June 27, 2026, reported a 95% credibility level with a margin of error of plus or minus three percentage points. While a notable portion of participants supported the military actions, 48% disagreed that they were humanitarian in nature, with 42% labeling them as military aggression. The survey revealed that only 13% of Iranians wish to continue living under the existing regime, while significant opposition exists toward the regime’s policies, including its missile program and nuclear ambitions. Despite divisions in opinion about military intervention, 60% of respondents expressed satisfaction that the Islamic Republic was weakened during the conflict, and 80% condemned the government’s violent suppression of protests.

Why It Matters

The findings from this survey highlight significant public sentiment in Iran regarding foreign military intervention and the legitimacy of the current regime. Historical context shows that the Iranian population has a longstanding opposition to the regime, with previous surveys indicating that 80%-92% of citizens are against it. The ongoing economic crisis and protests against the regime have underscored demands for change, illustrating a complex relationship between public opinion and government actions. The brutal crackdown on demonstrations, resulting in thousands of deaths and detentions, further complicates the political landscape, revealing a population that is largely dissatisfied with both the regime and its policies.
