Gateway extends gold discovery to 3.5 kilometers

Gateway Mining has announced significant progress at its Cowza gold discovery, extending the high-grade strike by another kilometre to reach a total of 3.5 kilometres at the Yandal gold project in Western Australia. Recent air-core drilling confirmed consistent gold mineralisation across all completed drill traverses, with notable intercepts including 4 metres at 11.1 grams per tonne (g/t) gold and 8 metres at 3.1 g/t gold. This expansion follows a previous increase of 2.5 kilometres, underscoring the rapid growth of the Cowza system. The geological features observed at Cowza indicate a fertile gold system, and additional drilling north of the current assay area has shown promising signs of continuity. To further this exploration, Gateway is deploying a second reverse-circulation rig dedicated to Cowza, while the first rig continues work at another site within the project. The flagship Yandal project already contains a JORC resource of 8.17 million tonnes at 1.52 g/t gold.

Why It Matters

The Yandal gold project, located in the Yandal Greenstone Belt, is in proximity to established mining operations, such as Northern Star Resources’ Jundee gold mine, which enhances its exploration potential. Gateway’s financial position is robust, with $15.7 million in cash and $5.6 million in liquid assets reported at the end of the last quarter. The rapid development of the Cowza discovery reflects a broader trend in the region, where multiple gold discoveries are being advanced, indicating a significant potential for economic contributions to the gold mining sector in Western Australia. The evolving nature of the Cowza system could lead to further discoveries, solidifying Gateway’s position in the competitive gold exploration landscape.
