UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has arrived in Syria for the first visit by a sitting UN chief in 17 years. During his trip, he will meet President Ahmed al-Sharaa, who was under UN sanctions until last year. Guterres plans to discuss Syria’s recovery and future stability, and will also visit the UN Disengagement Observer Force in the Golan Heights. His visit follows recent bombings in Damascus, for which authorities have arrested suspects linked to ISIS.
