What You Need to Know
• Jenitar Sau Na’amoana, 34, gave birth to identical quadruplet daughters on July 14 in Queensland, Australia.
• The quadruplets were delivered via cesarean section at Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, sharing a single placenta.
• This type of pregnancy is estimated to occur in 1 in every 15 million pregnancies, according to Dr. Alexa Bendall.

Jenitar Sau Na’amoana, a 34-year-old woman, gave birth to a rare set of identical quadruplet daughters on July 14 at Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in Queensland, Australia. Na’amoana and her husband, Jortham, did not utilize fertility treatments, and all four babies share a single placenta. Dr. Alexa Bendall, the fetal medicine specialist who oversaw Na’amoana’s care, noted that this is the first spontaneously conceived pregnancy of its kind at the hospital. Na’amoana was admitted at 25 weeks pregnant and delivered her daughters three weeks later, at 28 weeks. The quadruplets are currently in the neonatal intensive care unit and are reported to be doing well.

Why It Matters

This event highlights the extraordinary nature of identical quadruplet births, which are extremely rare and typically associated with fertility treatments. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, there were only 144 quadruplet and higher-order births in the United States in 2024. The successful delivery of these quadruplets without complications underscores advancements in prenatal care and the capabilities of modern medicine. Na’amoana’s family, which already included four children, has now doubled in size, illustrating the profound impact of such a rare birth on family dynamics.
