A fire has completely destroyed Lebanese Grill Express, a TikTok-famous takeaway in Clerkenwell, London, just one day after it reopened following a court-ordered closure due to complaints of antisocial behavior. The fire erupted in the early hours of Thursday morning, damaging the shop, a loft extension, and the building’s roof while also affecting parts of the first and second floors. Fortunately, all seven residents of the building escaped unharmed, and nearby properties were evacuated. The London Fire Brigade deployed around 80 firefighters, and the blaze took three hours to control. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

Why It Matters

Lebanese Grill Express had become notorious in the surrounding community for attracting large crowds, which led to complaints about noise, litter, and violence. Residents voiced concerns about disturbances, stating that the takeaway seemed to operate above the law, leading to police intervention and temporary closure. This incident highlights ongoing issues with establishments that gain popularity through social media platforms, often leading to increased local tensions and the need for regulatory oversight. The fire’s destruction of the takeaway underscores the potential vulnerabilities of businesses that have recently faced legal and community challenges.
