Doritos recalls popular snack due to potential health risk

PepsiCo has announced an urgent recall of its popular Doritos Chilli Heatwave flavor due to a potential health risk. The Food Standards Agency (FSA) reported that some bags of this product were mistakenly filled with Tangy Cheese flavored crisps, which contain milk. This poses a risk for individuals with milk allergies, as the Chilli Heatwave crisps do not list milk as an ingredient. The affected 140g bags bear the batch code GBC 209 184C and are marked with a best before date of December 5, 2026. Customers are advised to return the product for a full refund, and PepsiCo has issued notices to inform consumers about the recall.

Why It Matters

Food recalls are critical for public health, particularly when allergens are involved. Milk allergies can lead to varying reactions, from mild symptoms to severe anaphylaxis, which can be life-threatening. The FSA’s response underscores the importance of accurate labeling in food products to protect consumers. This incident highlights the ongoing need for food manufacturers to adhere strictly to safety standards and ingredient disclosure to prevent allergic reactions and maintain consumer trust.
