GolfWA has announced a partnership with Karratha Indoor Golf to enhance regional engagement in the Pilbara through a series of free “come and try” programs and structured introductory golf courses from July to September. The initiative focuses on increasing accessibility to golf for beginners, featuring targeted programs for juniors and women. A Junior MyGolf program for children aged 8 and older will commence on August 4, with a second session starting on September 1. Additionally, two four-week Women’s Get into Golf programs will also begin on August 4 and September 1, designed to encourage female participation. Supported by the Creative Industries for Tourism and Sport and the Regional Servicing Grant, this initiative aims to improve sporting opportunities in regional Western Australia, where access to coaching and facilities is often limited.
Why It Matters
This initiative is significant as it addresses the historical disparity in sports participation rates between metropolitan and regional areas in Australia. Regional communities often lack access to resources that facilitate sports development, which can lead to lower engagement levels. By promoting golf participation among juniors and women, GolfWA aims to foster a more inclusive sporting culture, contributing to overall community health and well-being. This effort aligns with broader regional development goals, particularly in enhancing recreational opportunities and building community cohesion through sports.
