UAE confirms missile threats on Sunday were outside its borders

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) confirmed on Sunday that missile threats detected were outside its borders. The UAE Defence Ministry stated that its national monitoring and tracking systems are functioning at peak readiness and efficiency. This announcement followed Iran’s declaration of attacks on US military sites in response to US strikes on Iranian targets. The US had completed a third wave of military action against Iran earlier in the week after an Iranian attack on a commercial vessel in the Strait of Hormuz, escalating tensions in the region.

Why It Matters

The ongoing hostilities between the US and Iran have significant implications for regional stability in the Middle East. The Strait of Hormuz is a critical chokepoint for global oil shipments, with approximately 20% of the world’s oil passing through it. Iran’s military activities and threats against US interests have raised concerns about potential disruptions to oil supply and increased military presence in the area. The UAE’s proactive defense measures highlight the heightened state of alert among Gulf nations facing Iranian aggression, which has historical roots stemming from the 1979 Iranian Revolution and subsequent US-Iran tensions.
