Jay Aranui sentenced for manslaughter of Andy Winitana

At 12:51 AM on February 1, 2023, Andy Winitana sent a text to his partner indicating he would return home soon after a night out with a friend. Shortly thereafter, while waiting for an Uber on a Napier street, he encountered Jay Bronson Aranui, a man he had never met before. Just three minutes later, Aranui struck Winitana with a single punch, causing him to lose consciousness before hitting the ground. Winitana, also known as Anaru, suffered severe injuries from the assault.
