Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. has announced that both Fabio Quartararo and Álex Rins will part ways with the Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Team at the conclusion of the 2026 season. Quartararo, who joined the team in 2019, has achieved notable success with 11 victories and the 2021 MotoGP World Championship title, although his recent criticisms of the brand suggest dissatisfaction with the team’s direction. Rins, who joined Yamaha in 2024, has not replicated his prior successes with Suzuki and Honda, contributing instead through valuable engineering feedback. The departure opens the door for potential replacements, with Jorge Martin and Ai Ogura expected to take over the positions, a change that has been speculated on for some time.

Why It Matters

The decision to end the partnership with Quartararo and Rins highlights significant shifts within Yamaha’s MotoGP strategy, particularly as they attempt to regain competitive standing in the sport. Quartararo’s tenure was marked by substantial achievements, making his exit a pivotal moment for the brand. Rins’ role, although less successful, was aimed at leveraging his experience to enhance Yamaha’s performance. With the anticipated arrival of Martin and Ogura, Yamaha is looking to rejuvenate their team dynamics and potentially improve their results in the highly competitive MotoGP landscape, which has seen rapid advancements in technology and team strategies.
