Several Iraqi politicians and officials have been arrested on corruption charges during a large-scale operation conducted by elite security forces in Baghdad’s Green Zone and surrounding areas. Among those detained were five members of parliament, including Muthanna Al-Samarrai, leader of the Al-Azm Alliance. The arrests follow statements from Deputy Oil Minister Adnan al-Jumaili, who was apprehended last month, as part of ongoing efforts by Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi to combat corruption in Iraq.
