More than 260 children killed in Gaza since ceasefire began

More than 260 children have died in the Gaza Strip since the ceasefire began on October 10, 2025, as reported by UNICEF spokesperson James Elder. He characterized the ceasefire as a โ€œcruel and deadly illusion,โ€ noting that an average of one child is killed each day despite the supposed truce. Recent incidents included the deaths of two sisters in drone strikes, highlighting the ongoing dangers faced by children in the region. Elder also pointed out the severe humanitarian crisis affecting Gazaโ€™s youth, including malnutrition and a lack of clean water, stating that children are not receiving adequate nutrition and are unable to eat three meals a day. The Gaza Ministry of Health reported that Israeli actions since the ceasefire have led to 1,031 Palestinian deaths and over 3,300 injuries.

Why It Matters

The ongoing violence in Gaza continues to have devastating effects on the civilian population, particularly children. Since the onset of the current conflict, humanitarian conditions have deteriorated significantly, with UNICEF warning of severe malnutrition and inadequate access to clean water for children. The situation is compounded by restrictions on humanitarian aid, which impede efforts to provide necessary resources. Historical patterns of violence and ceasefires in the region underscore the cyclical nature of the conflict, with each truce often failing to lead to lasting peace or improvement in living conditions for the affected populations.
