Israeli army kills two Palestinians in the West Bank

The Israeli army killed two Palestinians, Reda Awad, 15, and Issa Awad, 19, in Beit Ummar, located in the southern occupied West Bank, early Monday. The Health Ministry reported that the Israeli forces left the victims bleeding for an extended period before retrieving their bodies. Two other individuals were wounded in the incident and are currently in stable condition at a hospital. The Israeli army claimed the deceased had thrown Molotov cocktails toward the Karmi Tzur settlement, which is built on land belonging to Beit Ummar. Since the beginning of the year, at least 70 Palestinians have lost their lives due to Israeli military actions in the West Bank, amid increasing violence following the onset of the conflict in Gaza in October 2023.

Why It Matters

This incident reflects the ongoing tensions and violence in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, particularly in the West Bank, where military operations and settler violence have escalated. Historical data indicates that since the start of Israel’s military actions in Gaza in October 2023, there has been a significant rise in casualties and injuries among Palestinians, with over 1,173 deaths and more than 12,000 injuries reported. The situation is exacerbated by the presence of illegal settlements, such as Karmi Tzur, which are viewed as violations of international law and have led to increased clashes between Israeli forces and Palestinian residents. The context of these events highlights the broader implications of military actions and settlement policies on the stability and safety of the region.
