Three U.S. citizens were arrested on charges of conspiring to support the terrorist organization ISIS. The individuals, identified as Bisaam Ghafoor, 21, from Leawood, Kansas; Elias Shamsaldeen, 21, from Porterville, California; and Bereen Dzayee, 25, from Lakeside, California, allegedly conspired to provide material support to ISIS, including financial contributions exceeding $2,000. Ghafoor is reported to have made violent threats against U.S. service members, expressing a desire to kill Americans and even stating he wished to be associated with an attack on U.S. troops. The group communicated via various messaging platforms about their intentions to fight for ISIS and actively discussed plans to provide support to the organization. Their activities were investigated by the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force, leading to their arrest.

Why It Matters

The arrests highlight ongoing concerns regarding domestic support for international terrorism, particularly related to ISIS, which has been responsible for numerous attacks worldwide. The FBI has intensified efforts to dismantle terrorist networks that threaten U.S. national security, reflecting a broader strategy to prevent violent extremism at home. Historically, ISIS has recruited individuals from various countries, including the U.S., raising alarm about radicalization and potential attacks on American soil. This case underscores the importance of vigilance and proactive measures in countering terrorism and protecting military personnel and civilians alike.
