Ohio State University has announced major renovations for Ohio Stadium, including a new playing surface and improved WiFi access for fans ahead of the upcoming fall season. The Board of Trustees has approved a $31 million project that includes a new main video board for the south stands, set to be completed by 2027, which will feature enhanced visuals and a larger screen than the current board, measuring 42 by 125 feet. This upgrade follows the approval of a new video board for the north end of the stadium and new ribbon boards, both of which are expected to be ready by the start of the 2026 season. Athletic Director Ross Bjork emphasized that the new board will provide a brighter and crisper viewing experience for fans during games.

Why It Matters

Ohio Stadium, a historic venue with a seating capacity of over 100,000, has undergone various upgrades over the years to enhance the fan experience. The current video board was last updated in 2012, highlighting the need for modern technology in large sports venues. The new renovations are part of a broader trend in college athletics, where schools are investing significantly in infrastructure to compete with professional facilities. These improvements not only elevate the game-day experience but also reflect the increasing financial commitment to college sports, as universities strive to attract and retain fans and enhance their overall marketability.
