China’s electric vehicle exports increased by 40 percent last month, with a total of 278,081 vehicles exported in April. Asia imported the most EVs from China, followed by Europe and Latin America. Chinese EV exports hit a record high of 2.5 million in 2025, double the previous year’s figure, and Chinese models accounted for 55 percent of all EV sales outside of Europe and the US. The International Energy Agency estimates that global EV sales will reach 23 million in 2026.
Why It Matters
China’s dominance in the global electric vehicle market is evident through its increasing exports and market share. Despite tariffs imposed by the US and the European Union, Chinese EV exports continue to grow, showcasing the country’s strong position in the industry. As global demand for electric vehicles rises, China’s role as the largest manufacturer and exporter of EVs becomes more significant, shaping the future of the automotive industry.
