Morocco’s King Mohammed VI has pardoned 17 Senegalese football fans who were jailed following disturbances during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final. The royal pardon was granted on humanitarian grounds and coincides with the celebration of Eid al-Adha. The fans were imprisoned after a pitch invasion during a controversial penalty decision, which subsequently led to a 3-0 win for Morocco after an appeal by their football federation. Senegal has appealed the ruling to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
