Thailand’s former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra has been released from prison after serving approximately eight months of a one-year sentence for corruption-related charges. Welcomed by supporters, including family and political allies, Thaksin was seen smiling as he exited Klong Prem Central Prison. He had returned to Thailand in 2023 after 15 years in self-imposed exile and was hospitalized shortly after imprisonment due to health issues. Thaksin will wear an electronic ankle monitor for the remainder of his sentence.
