Man pleads not guilty to threatening former Prince Andrew

A 39-year-old man, Alex Jenkinson, pleaded not guilty on Friday to charges of threatening former Prince Andrew near his residence on the Sandringham estate. Jenkinson faces two counts, including allegedly using threatening language towards Andrew during an incident on Wednesday, as well as towards another individual the previous day. The former Duke of York, who had his royal titles removed last year by King Charles III due to his association with Jeffrey Epstein, is expected to testify at a trial scheduled for July 29 at Westminster Magistrates’ Court. Jenkinson was arrested after allegedly confronting Andrew while the prince was walking his dogs, resulting in police involvement and accusations of public order offenses. Jenkinson, appearing in court remotely, also pleaded guilty to a separate charge related to failing to provide a blood specimen while in custody.

Why It Matters

This incident is significant as it highlights ongoing tensions surrounding the British royal family, particularly concerning Prince Andrew’s controversial past linked to Jeffrey Epstein. Andrew’s removal of royal titles and his previous legal challenges, including a settlement with accuser Virginia Giuffre, have exacerbated public scrutiny of his actions and associations. The upcoming trial may further impact the reputation of the royal family, which has been attempting to distance itself from scandals related to Epstein and the allegations against Andrew. The situation underscores the complexities and challenges faced by the monarchy in maintaining public trust amid ongoing controversies.
