Mali investigates soldiers linked to military base attacks

Malian authorities are investigating five army personnel, including three active-duty soldiers, for their suspected involvement in a series of coordinated attacks on military bases claimed by an al-Qaeda affiliate and separatist groups. The attacks on April 25 resulted in the death of the defense minister and the loss of control over the northern town of Kidal to armed groups. The military government is facing pressure to maintain control of key northern cities as violence escalates.
