The father of a teenager allegedly murdered by her stepbrother aboard a cruise ship has announced he will not attend the upcoming trial. Christopher Kepner stated that he cannot “relive” the trauma of finding his daughter Anna’s body in their cabin. The accused, 16-year-old Timothy Hudson, is set to face charges of first-degree murder and aggravated sexual abuse on June 1 in Miami federal court. Hudson has pleaded not guilty to the charges. Anna Kepner was found dead on November 7, 2025, and authorities ruled her death a homicide caused by mechanical asphyxiation. The case has garnered significant attention, and if convicted, Hudson could face life in prison.

Why It Matters

This case highlights issues surrounding safety and accountability on cruise ships, particularly in international waters where jurisdiction and legal proceedings can be complex. The tragic death of Anna Kepner has raised awareness about potential dangers on cruise vacations, and the legal ramifications involved in such incidents. The trial will likely address not only the allegations against Hudson but also broader concerns related to how cruise lines manage safety and respond to criminal activities aboard their vessels.
