An 18-year-old man, Enzo Bettamio, has been extradited from Dubai and charged with the murder of Kamonnan Thiamphanit, known as Angela, who was fatally stabbed at a £4 million Airbnb near Hyde Park in April 2024. Bettamio was returned to the UK after collaborative efforts between the Metropolitan Police and Crown Prosecution Service’s extradition units. Thiamphanit, 27, was discovered by police with multiple stab wounds at the property on April 8, 2024, and was pronounced dead at the scene. Bettamio is set to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court today. The police investigation is ongoing, and the case has drawn attention due to prior police contact with the victim’s friends before her death.

Why It Matters

This case highlights ongoing issues surrounding domestic violence and the effectiveness of police response to reported concerns. The Metropolitan Police self-referred the case to the Independent Office for Police Conduct after it was revealed that officers had been contacted twice by Thiamphanit’s friends a day before her murder. Such incidents raise critical questions about the adequacy of police protocols in handling domestic violence reports and the overall safety of vulnerable individuals. The case also underscores the complexities of international law enforcement collaboration in addressing violent crimes that cross borders.
