A 62-year-old man named James Manchand has been sentenced to 20 months in prison for filming upskirt videos of over 20 women in Soho on January 16. Plain-clothed officers observed Manchand pacing near groups of women and subsequently discovered 29 videos on his phone, all recorded during that same evening. This incident occurred while he was already under a Sexual Harm Prevention Order due to a previous voyeurism conviction. Following his arrest, Detective Constable Sam Pearson emphasized the importance of police intervention, stating that Manchand’s behavior demonstrated a complete disregard for the victims. The Metropolitan Police reiterated their commitment to combating such predatory actions against women.

Why It Matters

Voyeurism remains a significant issue, intruding on personal privacy and often occurring in public spaces where victims may not realize they are being targeted. The prevalence of such offenses has prompted law enforcement agencies to enhance their vigilance in crowded areas, particularly during social outings. This case highlights the ongoing need for public awareness and community action to prevent and report suspicious behavior that could lead to further victimization. The increased scrutiny and enforcement of sexual harm laws aim to protect individuals from similar violations and promote a safer environment for everyone.
