At least three babies are born every minute in Sudan amid a devastating conflict between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces, with 5.6 million births recorded since the war began in April 2023. Save the Children reports that many of these births occur in overcrowded shelters and damaged health facilities, as the country’s healthcare system faces severe strain. Maternal mortality rates have risen significantly, and attacks on medical facilities have critically impacted access to essential care for mothers and newborns.
