The Warmun community has completed a $1.3 million redevelopment of Warmun Oval, enhancing the Kimberley town’s sporting facilities ahead of the East Kimberley Football League season. Funded by the State Government’s PlayOn WA initiative, the project included a complete refurbishment of changerooms with new showers, toilets, and a parents’ room. The oval itself has been upgraded with a leveled and reseeded surface, a modern reticulation system, new interchange benches with an integrated water supply, and a dedicated scoreboard stand. Additionally, kiosk facilities have been significantly improved, featuring stainless steel benches and new appliances. The renovations also included a new boundary fence and tree plantings for shade, along with upgraded CCTV for enhanced security. Sport and Recreation Minister Rita Saffioti noted that the timing of the completion would benefit local players, as the Warmun Eagles prepare to host the Port Wyndham Crocs in the season’s opening game.

Why It Matters

This redevelopment is part of a broader $2.35 million investment aimed at enhancing sporting infrastructure in Warmun, which will also include future upgrades to basketball courts and the recreation center. Improved sports facilities not only support local athletics but also foster community engagement and well-being. The upgrades to Warmun Oval reflect a significant commitment to investing in regional sports infrastructure, which is essential for encouraging youth participation in physical activities and promoting healthy lifestyles. Enhanced facilities can also lead to increased attendance at games and local events, benefiting the community economically and socially.
