Artemis II astronauts have passed the halfway mark on their journey to the moon, capturing the first images of Earth from inside the Orion spacecraft. Currently, they are approximately 322,000km from Earth and 132,000km from the moon. Scheduled to swing around the far side of the moon soon, this mission aims to break previous records of human travel distance from Earth.

Why It Matters

Artemis II represents NASA’s push to return to the moon regularly and establish a permanent base for further space exploration. The mission’s success could pave the way for future deep space missions and contribute to humanity’s understanding of lunar exploration. This milestone signals progress towards NASA’s goal of sustained lunar presence and potential launchpad for future space endeavors.
