A British-based campaign group claims up to 70 UK citizens have been detained in the UAE for sharing images of Iranian attacks. The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office is providing assistance to a small number of detained Britons. Five Britons are currently receiving consular help, with some already released. Many were unaware of the UAE’s strict cybercrime laws. Detained in Dubai chief executive Radha Stirling criticized the government for not providing enough support to citizens in trouble abroad. Anyone arrested under these laws could face harsh penalties, including a life sentence.
