Zacariah Boulares, now 19, has pleaded guilty to attempted robbery and possession of a machete after he attempted to steal a Rolex watch valued at £17,000 from Neil Tallantire in Bayswater, London, on August 19, 2023. This incident occurred just six weeks after Boulares threatened TV presenter Aled Jones with a machete during a robbery, where he also stole Jones’s Rolex. In February 2023, Boulares was caught trying to steal the mobile phone of Bridgerton actress Genevieve Chenneour, leaving her traumatized. During a recent court hearing at Southwark Crown Court, the judge questioned the delay in bringing Boulares to justice, noting that the crime was captured on CCTV. Boulares is set to be sentenced on June 19, 2025, where the court will also consider psychological assessments to determine his dangerousness.

Why It Matters

This case underscores ongoing concerns regarding violent crime and robbery in London, particularly involving young offenders. The prevalence of high-profile thefts, especially targeting celebrities, raises questions about public safety and the effectiveness of law enforcement in addressing such crimes. Boulares’s history of violence reveals a troubling pattern of targeting individuals in affluent areas, contributing to a climate of fear among residents and visitors alike. The judicial system is currently grappling with how to effectively rehabilitate young offenders while ensuring public safety, particularly in light of the psychological evaluations being conducted for Boulares.
