The UCLA Bruins advanced to the Sweet 16 for the fourth consecutive season following an 87-68 victory over No. 8 seed Oklahoma State at Pauley Pavilion. The Bruins will now travel to Sacramento to face Minnesota in their upcoming matchup. In contrast to their first-round victory over California Baptist, where they excelled in the second half, UCLA dominated the first half against Oklahoma State but saw a more competitive second half, being outscored 42-41. Senior Lauren Betts delivered a standout performance, scoring a career-high 35 points, while fellow seniors contributed to the win. Freshman Gianna Kneepkens added 15 points, including three three-pointers, and UCLA’s overall shooting from beyond the arc was a key factor in their victory.

Why It Matters

UCLA’s consistent performance in the NCAA tournament reflects the strength of their program, having reached the Sweet 16 in four consecutive seasons. The impressive play of both seasoned seniors and promising freshmen like Lauren Betts and Gianna Kneepkens showcases the team’s depth and potential for future success. Historically, a strong showing in the tournament can significantly elevate a program’s reputation and attract top talent. The Bruins previously defeated Minnesota 76-58 earlier this season, adding a layer of competitive context to their upcoming game, as they aim to secure a spot in the Elite Eight.
