Kambalda Swimming Club excelled at the recent Narembeen Invitation, with all 16 members achieving personal bests. Notably, 13-year-old Kai Best secured eight medals, including a gold in the boys open 50m backstroke and six silver medals, along with a bronze. His teammate, Lucas Steinhauser, earned a silver and two bronze medals, contributing to the team’s success. Meanwhile, the Kalgoorlie Amateur Swimming Club made its debut at the event, with 11 swimmers, led by Oliver Samuels, who claimed five gold medals. Matilda Tamati-Fitzpatrick also stood out with four gold medals, and the club triumphed in four relay events. KASC secretary Lyn van den Elzen highlighted the importance of regional competitions in fostering community and strengthening team bonds.

Why It Matters

The Narembeen Invitation provides an essential platform for local swimming clubs, promoting participation and camaraderie among young athletes. Regional competitions often emphasize community values and teamwork, contrasting with the more competitive nature of larger events. Historically, such meets have played a significant role in the development of sports at the grassroots level, offering opportunities for athletes to connect and improve. The emphasis on personal bests and collective support contributes to the overall growth of the sport within the community.
