Canadian potatoes may soon be exported to Mexico under new trade agreement

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has reached an agreement with Mexico to allow the export of fresh Canadian potatoes for consumption and processing. This deal follows efforts by Agriculture Minister Heath MacDonald to open new markets for Canadian produce, particularly as Mexico has traditionally imported potatoes primarily from the U.S. The first shipments could begin as early as this fall, focusing mainly on russet potatoes, which do not compete with local varieties.
