Crufts champion convicted of animal cruelty for poor kennel conditions

Lee Cox, recently crowned Best in Show at Crufts with his Clumber Spaniel Bruin, has a past conviction for animal cruelty. In 2001, Cox was prosecuted for the neglect of dogs at his Somerset kennel, resulting in a three-year conditional discharge and a £5,000 fine. The Royal Kennel Club confirmed the conviction but noted that Cox has maintained an unblemished record in the 25 years since. Animal rights activists continue to voice concerns about the welfare of show dogs at events like Crufts.
